FOUNDATION for the Protection of Women and Children, an NGO, says the lockdown which followed the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), has reunited families and mended many broken homes in Kaduna.
President of the Foundation, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, said on Wednesday in Kaduna, that the lockdown afforded couples with issues opportunities to settle their domestic problems, thereby restoring peace in their homes.
Tijjani said the NGO’s findings were from a survey conducted in some communities in Kaduna.
She, however, said the checks also showed a slight increase in domestic violence.
The activist who did not give comprehensive details of the areas the findings were conducted, added that some couples took it a step further by working together to assist other families facing challenges of hunger and other issues, as a result of implementation of protocols to check coronavirus spread .
Tijjani further added that the period afforded parents quality time to teach their children family values because they now had time with their families at home.
“During the lockdown, some men were seen helping their wives cook ,wash; and assisting with general house chores, thereby making their spouses happy.
“Some took time to teach their children cultural values, which brought joy and happiness to many homes; meaning that something good came out of the lockdown,” she said.
Tijjani who is a peace ambassador and interfaith specialist, urged married men and women to always make out time to stay with their partners.
“The lockdown has come with some advantages that we must all strive to nurture so as to help maintain a peaceful society in Nigeria,” she said.
Tijjani said she was optimistic that there will be many new born babies in the next one year due to the lockdown, which had increased intimacy between couples.
