NIGERIAN Breweries Plc. (NBL) on Monday donated palliative items to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council.

Isaac Nwabuzor, Head, Corporate Affairs of the organisation, who delivered the items at the NUJ Press Centre, Enugu, said that the gesture was to cushion the effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown on the journalists.

Nwabuzor said that the NBL was appreciative of the long-standing relationship between the company and journalists in the state.

He described the media as a critical stakeholder in the operations of the company.

“We thank you for your support over the years. You are a key stakeholder to our operations in the state and we want the relationship to continue,” Nwabuzor said.

Responding, Mr. Rex Arum, the NUJ chairman commended the NBL for the gesture.

Arum said that the company had shown great reputation and consistency in their operations as well as its relationship with the media in the state.

The council chairman said that journalists in the state had been negatively affected by the outbreak of COVID-19, adding that the intervention by NBL would go a long way to cushion the effects of the pandemic on media practitioners.

“We shall continue to support your company as media and we thank your management for the support,” Arum said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the items donated to the NUJ include bags of rice, bags of beans, vegetable oil, tomatoes paste, tubers of yam, hand sanitiser among others. (NAN)
