COVID-19: Plateau legislators to ensure complete closure of state borders

The Plateau House of Assembly on Friday said it would exercise its oversight function by ensuring a complete closure of the state borders to curb the spread of Coronavirus.

Mr Daniel Listick, Chairman, House Committee on Health, in a statement in Jos, said that the move became imperative following the confirmation of a COVID-19 case in the state.

Listick said that lawmakers would be monitoring the borders on regular basis to ensure total compliance.

The lawmaker, who represents Langtang North Central Constituency in the State Assembly, said that prevention remained the best option to mitigate the spread of the pandemic.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday, announced the first case of COVID-19 in Plateau.

Listick who called on residents not to panic because of the index case, urged them to continually practice good hygiene and obey the rules and regulations put in place to manage the pandemic. (NAN)
