Coronavirus Pandemic

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has donated 5,000 pieces of face masks to Oyo State Government to help mitigate the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The minister, represented by his Special Adviser on Media, John Joshua-Akanji, made the donation on Tuesday at the Oyo State Liason office in Abuja.

He said the gesture was to lend support to the governor’s campaign against the spread of the COVID-19,” he said.

Dare stressed that the only way the virus could be defeated was through collective effort and strict adherence to the health protocols.

“We would not relent until this battle is won.

“This is my token contribution and I believe it would go a long way to complement the governor’s efforts.

”We shall continue to lend our support in whatever way we can until this virus is completely defeated,” Dare said.

Earlier, the Principal Administrative Officer at the Oyo State Liason Office, Abuja, Mrs Ladipo Jumoke, while receiving the items on behalf of the governor, thanked the minister for the gesture.

“We sincerely appreciate his gesture and assure him that it would get to all the Local Government Areas in the state to prevent the spread of the virus.

”I assure the minister that the masks would be put to good use,” she said.

Dare, who hails from Ogbomoso in Oyo State, has been in the fore front of rallying support for palliatives for the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dare had earlier in April, donated food items and other essential commodities to widows, the aged and vulnerable in some Local Government Areas of the state, to cushion the effect of the lockdown. (NAN)
