THREE men, who allegedly assaulted two officials of the Ikeja Distribution Company (IKEDC), were on Friday brought before an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The defendants, Waheed Adeniyi, 55; Jamiu Kutere, 59 and Waheed Adekoya, 65, are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, assault, stealing and breech of peace.

The Prosecutor, Insp. John Iberedim, told the court that the defendants committed the offences with some other persons still at large on Nov. 19 at IKEDC Office in Ikorodu.

Iberedim said the defendants assaulted the IKEDC officials, invaded their office, ransacked it and stole their mobile phones valued at N65,000.

He added that the defendants led a mob of no fewer than 50 people to the IKEDC office with a complainant that their cable was stolen.

“When the crowd got to the office they beat up the two officials, Mr Chukwu Okoroafor and Mr Femi Oluwole, who were on duty, ransacked the office and stole their mobile phones,” he said.

Iberedim said the offences contravened Sections 56, 245, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides two years imprisonment for conspiracy.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.F. Azeez, granted the defendants bail of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Azeez adjourned the case until Feb. 6, 2020.
