The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal office, on Monday brought Ibraheem Adeyemi before an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan over alleged stealing of N3 million.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant was arraigned on a one-count charge of stealing.

The EFCC’s Counsel, Sanusi Galadanchi, told the court that the defendant defrauded Alhaji Kamoru Atilola of N3 million by converting Atilola’s money to his personal use.

Galadanchi said that Atilola trusted the defendant and gave him the money to keep, but the defendant betrayed the trust by converting it to his personal use.

The EFCC counsel said that the incident happened sometimes in April 2016.

He said that the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 38, Vol.2, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Adeyemi, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Galadanchi prayed the court to fix a date to begin the trial of the defendant.

Mr Bolarinwa Lawal, Counsel to the defendant, moved a bail application he had earlier filed on behalf of his client, urging the court to admit the defendant to bail.

Justice Ladiran Akintola granted the defendant N2 million bail with two sureties in like sum.

Akintola said that the sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and present three years’ tax clearance certificates which would be verified by the court.

He adjourned the case until April 15 for trial. (NAN)
