Man, 27, docked for breaking in, theft

A 27-year-old man, Lukman Ahmed, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly
breaking into a house and stealing valuables which valued had yet to be ascertained.

The accused was arraigned before Magistrate O.A. Akokhia on a three-count charge of breaking in, damage and stealing.

Ahmed, who resides at Egbeda, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty, and was admitted to N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Akokhia said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 9 at Idiorogbo, Ayobo, Lagos.

He said that the accused burgled the house of Mrs Adeyemisi Iyasafe and stole her property.

“The accused stole phone, wristwatch, clothes and other items which values have not been ascertained,” he said.

Okuoimose said that the accused scaled the fence to gain access into Iyasafe’s compound.

“The accused jumped the fence to enter the complainant’s premises.

“He damaged the window burglar proof to gain entrance into the apartment and stole the items,’’ he submitted.

The prosecutor said that the accused was arrested by neighbours when he wanted to jump the fence after the theft.

“The stolen property were recovered, and he was handed over to the police,” the prosecutor said.

He noted that the offences contravened Sections 287, 339 and 310 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 310 stipulates three years imprisonment for burglary.

The case has been was adjourned until April 25 for mention.
