Motorcyclist docked over alleged attempt to rape passenger

A motorcyclist, Leye Adebayo, 35, was on Monday docked before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged attempt to rape his passenger.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 28 around 5.30p.m at Mosarajo Village near Ile-Ife in Osun.

Emmanuel said that the motorcyclist conducted himself in a manner that might likely cause a great breakdown of law and order by intended to rape his 35-year-old woman passenger.

He added that the offence contravened Section 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defence counsel, Mr Okoh Michael, pleaded for the bail of the defendant in most liberal term.

Michael pledged before the court that his client would not jump bail, saying that he would produce substantial sureties.

Magistrate A. A. Adebayo, however, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

Adebayo added that the surety must swear to affidavit of means, and resides within the court jurisdiction.

The magistrate added that the address of the surety must be verified by the prosecutor and as well provide three recent passport photograph.

He adjourned the case until July 16 for hearing.
