Police arraign 3 men for allegedly stealing 1,900 cartons of sweet valued at N22m

THE police on Thursday arraigned three men, who allegedly stole 23 cartons of sweet valued at N22 million in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The police charged Isiaka Azeez, 35, a driver; Nathaniel Aworinde, 37; and Nojeem Yahya, 36, with three counts of  conspiracy, stealing and diversion.

The Persecution counsel,  DSP Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the defendants committed the offencs on Feb. 17, at 5  a.m., at No. 30, Imman Daudu, off Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos.

Nwangwu alleged that the defendants conspired with others at large,and stole a 40ft  container mark truck loaded with 1900 cartons of Coll Pop Collobian sweet valued at N22 million, property of one Hassan Ollerk.

He said that the three men unlawfully diverted the products to an unknown destination.

Nwangwu said the defendants were later apprehended by the police after investigation.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 285 (1), 340 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

Chief Magistrate  Yewande Aje-Afunwa, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N9 million each with two responsible sureties each in like sum.

Aje-Afunwa ordered that one of the sureties must be a property owner in Lagos and should be gainfully employed.

She also ordered that the sureties must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate fixed May 30 for trial.
