Police arraign man for alleged trespass, breach of public peace

THE police in Osun, on Tuesday, arraigned a 45-year-old man, Orewole Ayodele, before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly trespassing and breach of public peace.

Ayodele, who is facing a two-count charge of breach of public peace and trespassing into private property, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Lamidi Rasaq, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at Oke-Fia area of Osogbo.

Rasaq said that the defendant forcibly entered into the property of the complainant, Alhaja Fausat Bolanle, and breached the peace within the community.

“The defendant refused the complainant from taking possession of the land which had a certificate of occupancy in her name,” the prosecutor told the court.

Rasaq said that the offences contravened Sections 81and 249(D) of the Criminal Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defence Counsel, Mr M. A. Atobatele, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Awodele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Awodele ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant, with evidence of three years tax payment to the state government.

He also said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The magistrate, thereafter, adjourned the case till Nov. 5 for mention. (NAN)
