Police arraign septuagenarian, 4 others over alleged threat to life , conspiracy in Osun

A septuagenarian, Azeez Akanmu, and four others were on Monday arraigned before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osun charged with threatening the lives of two men over a piece of land in dispute.

Akanmu, 71, and his co-accused, Adepoju Hassan, 65, Mufutau Oyeweso, 56, Adebiyi Mukaila, 45, and Abiodun Oyeweso, 37, are facing a three count charge of threat to life, causing a breach of the peace and conspiracy.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Olusegun Elisha told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Oct. 13 at Egbedi area of Osogbo at about 10.a.m.

Elisha said the defendants threatened the life of Messrs Muyideen Azeez and Ayandiran Rasheed with cutlasses and sticks and also caused breach of public peace in the said environment.

The prosecutor said the offense contravened sections 516, 86 and 249(D)of the Criminal Code cap 34 vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to charges against them.

The Defense Counsel, Mr A. Taofeek, urged the court to grant his clients bail in the most liberal terms.

The Magistrate Mrs R. A Olayemi admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

She said the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and submit to the court three sized passport photographs as well as evidence of three years tax payment to the Osun government.

The case was adjourned until Nov.16 for hearing.
