AN Ikeja ,  Magistrates’ Court on Monday, remanded, Iwegbuna Joseph (30), in Kirikiri Prisons after  the defendant pleaded guilty to stealing phone valued at N63,000

Mr J. A Adegun, who gave the ruling, said Joseph should remain behind bars until Sept. 28 for his sentence.

Joseph, a resident of Ikeja, had pleaded guilty to a three- count charge of intent to commit felony, damage and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 3 at Shogunle, Lagos.

He said that the defendant entered the residence of Mrs Gift Adediran to steal her phone.

“The defendant damaged the complainant’s window net worth N20, 000 and stole her phone, valued at N63, 000, “ he said.

Ogu said that the defendant unlawfully armed himself with a shovel, long stick with cloth tied on it, tip and a razor blade.

“He used the blade to damage the complainant’s window net, used the long stick to drag her phone into the shovel and brought it out through the window.

“But luck was against him as he was sighted by a neighbour, who raised alarm.

“He was apprehended and handed over to the police.”
Ogu said that the shovel, razor blade, long stick and the phone were recovered from Joseph.

The said offences violate sections 287, 308 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing while S   ection 308 prescribes five years for intent to commit felony.
