THE Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa in collaboration with the state’s Environmental Sanitation and Protection Agency, on Monday confiscated and burnt expired products worth over N270,000.

Speaking while destroying the items in Hadejia, the Council’s Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Mai-Kanti, advised traders to ensure that production and expiry dates were indicated on their goods.

Represented by the Leader, Hadejia Legislative Council, Alhaji Adamu Yusuf, Maikanti urged consumers to always report traders selling unwholesome products to the council.

Alhaji Muazu Muhammad, Zonal Director of the Environmental Sanitation and Protection Agency, listed items destroyed to include drugs, beverages, cosmetics and snacks that had expired.

He cautioned traders against displaying food items in open spaces as excessive exposure to sunlight undermined the quality of some products and consumables.

“Traders, who engage in this act which poses serious health risk to our people, are hereby warned to desist from it or risk being prosecuted,’’ he said.
