Delta Govt. ready for digital switch over-official

Asaba, Sept. 17, 2018 (NAN) Delta Government on Monday said that its television stations, Delta Broadcasting Services in Asaba and Warri, were ready for digital switch over.

The State Commissioner for Information, Chief Patrick Ukah, said this at the grand finale of the State Ministerial Press Briefing organised by the ministry in Asaba.

He said that the television stations have been equipped for the switch over, adding that the state government would implement the switch over after a visit by the National Broadcasting Commission.

Ukah said that the stations currently run both analogue and digital transmissions on StarTimes, adding that modalities were in progress to train the staff and purchase all the needed digital recording equipment.

He also said that the state owned printing press, “The Pointer” was on the verge of being transformed for optimum performance.

The commissioner said that most of the challenges of the newspaper company had been identified and were being addressed.

He said that the state Ministry of Justice had taken up the issue to properly reposition the company.

“As part of effort to reposition the Government Printing Press for improved and well-coordinated service delivery, the Kord 64 Printing Machine, which was bad, was repaired in 2017,” Ukah said.

The commissioner said that the ministerial press briefing, an initiative of his ministry, had enabled the various ministries, department and agencies of government to highlight their activities to the people.

He said that his ministry has effectively performed its roles since the inception of the current Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration by articulating and adequately publicising the programmes, policies and activities of the government.

“As media practitioners, we know that effective dissemination of information to the public is fundamental to the success of any government.

“Information is a critical driving force necessary for the achievement of set objectives by virtue of its ability to mobilise and propel people for action.

“The ministry has been committed towards articulating and adequately publicising the programmes, policies and activities of government over last three years,” he said. (NAN)
