POLITICIAN, former minister of petroleum resources and first female president of Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, 57, December 6. Born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, she studied in England, Howard University, United States and Cambridge University. She graduated from Howard with a bachelor’s degree on 8 December 1992. She worked with Shell Petroleum Development Corporation, and became the first female Executive Director in Nigeria. Alison-Madueke has held three significant positions in the Nigerian federal government. She was appointed Transport Minister, 2007; Minister of Mines and Steel Development, 2008, and Minister of Petroleum Resources, 2010 – 2015. She is the first female President of OPEC and was elected at the 166th OPEC Ordinary meeting in Vienna on 27 November 2014.
