SEN. Nicholas Tofowomo representing Ondo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly has promised to rebuild roads and bridges affected by erosion in the district.

Tofowomo made the pledge while speaking in Ayeka Town in Okitipupa, Ondo State, on Friday during a visit to some communities ravaged by erosion in the past five years.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tofowomo, who began the tour on Thursday, visited communities in Odigbo, Irele and Okitipupa local government areas.

The senator said he would visit the other three local government areas, Ilaje, Ese-Odo and Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo, next week.

He said that many of the communities had been suffering from gully erosion for about five years, with some link roads ravaged, several homes washed away and property worth millions of naira destroyed.

”In Ore town in Odigbo LGA, I promise to construct a bridge on Ajegunle Street that will be connected to Rainbow Street.

”Also, all the damaged bridges will be fixed.

”In Ayeka Town in Okitipupa LGA, I promised to tackle the gully which has already destroyed the major road linking the community to Okitipupa.

”It will be given immediate attention with accelerated construction of the damaged bridge,” Tofowomo said.

The lawmaker also assured the people of Okitipupa and Irele council areas that ecological projects would be embarked upon to fix tackle the erosion.

“I have gone round communities in my district and seen the damage done by erosion in the past five years. We will fix it.

“I have spent a year in office, I am getting settled gradually. If not for the accident I had on Sept. 6, 2019, I would have gone far in this project but the accident pulled me back for about eight months.

“I am actively starting now and it is my responsibility to ensure that before the end of the year, the ecological projects will begin in all these communities to fix the bridges and link roads,” Tofowomo said.
