Distribution of palliatives in Oyo not based on partisan interests – Governor’s aide

THE distribution of palliatives to 120 identified vulnerable households in Oyo state is not based on partisan interests, Dr Debo Akande, the Special Adviser to Gov. Seyi Makinde on Agric-business, has said.

Akande stated this on Wednesday while briefing newsmen at the end of the distribution of palliatives to some vulnerable households in Ibadan South West Local Government Area of the state by Makinde.

The Special Adviser said the items donated were to cushion the effect of the lockdown necessitated by COVID-19, and was solely for the identified poorest of the poor in the society irrespective of political party affiliations.

” We have their data and their contacts to be sure that the beneficiaries are the category of people that needs the palliatives,” he said.

On the number of households that have benefitted from the exercise; Akande said that 90,000 households had so far benefitted from the palliatives.

He said that the second phase of the exercise would be for the identified 30,000 vulnerable households.

The governor’s aide further stated that the palliatives were in form of food stuff and agricultural inputs for farmers.

He said that no fewer than 10,000 farmers would benefit from the support within the next two weeks.

Makinde and some members of his cabinet visited some households in Oke Ado, Foko, Oja-Oba and Oranyan areas within Ibadan metropolis where he personally distributed food items such as rice, beans and cassava flakes to some beneficiaries. (NAN)
