Domestic servant docked for allegedly stealing employer’s jewellery worth N5m

A 28-year-old domestic servant, Peace Igbor was on Thursday docked before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing her employer’s jewellery worth N5 million.

The defendant, who resides in Ogudu GRA,Lagos is charged with conspiracy and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Sunday Bassey, told the court that the offence was committed on March 7 at the above address in Lagos.

He alleged that when the complainant, Mrs Halima Oyewole returned from work she found that her domestic staff had entered her bedroom and carted away all her very expensive jewellery.

Bassey told the court that the defendant allegedly entered into the complainants room with a master key and took all their gold necklaces, gold wristwatches, bangles, gold brochettes.

He said that when Igbor was confronted she allegedly confessed to have taken them under the influence of a charm and handed all to an unknown thief who came to the house.

Bassey told the court the jewellery worth N5,000,000.

The prosecutor said that the case was reported at the police station in Ogudu and the defendant was arrested.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O Tanimola, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Tanimola adjourned the case until March 27, for mention. (NAN)
