A 47-year-old driver, Michael Ifejirike, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Gwagwalada Magistrates’ Court, Abuja for alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The prosecution counsel, Abudullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Joseph Nwiwu, of same address reported the matter at the Idu division on Feb. 17.

Tanko said that the complainant gave the defendant a Toyota Sienna on hire purchase for N1.5 million to use for commercial purpose.

He said they agreed that the defendant would remit N20,000 weekly until he completes the payment.

He said that the defendant drove the car for eight months and only remitted N120,000 instead of N640,000.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Yusuf Ibrahim admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N400,000 with two reasonable sureties in like sum who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Ibrahim ordered that the defendant must provide a print out of his Bank Verification Number.

He adjourned the case until April 6, for hearing. (NAN)
