THE Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), Lagos State Chapter, has declared a seven-day fasting and prayer session for the nation over the current economic challenges.

WOWICAN Lagos Chairperson, Stella Iseoma-Okoroafor, said the session would be part of activities to celebrate association’s 13th convention and 30th anniversary.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the intercession is: “Divine intervention”.

According to her, the annual convention and anniversary to arouse women’s consciousness toward responsibilities to the society, begins Sept. 16 and ends Sept. 22 at the Apostolic Church LAWNNA Territorial Headquarters, Ketu, Lagos.

Iseoma-Okoroafor, speaking on the role of women in engineering a better family and society, said  aside from the role model functions played by the women at home and society, that women should act as a buffer to the society to halt its challenges.

“Like Esther, Naomi, Queen of Sheba  that at their times interceded for their people in times of needs, our women of faith will deploy this years anniversary to seek the face of God on our nation, Nigeria.

“God hears the supplication of women when made in unison and with a tearful heart. The challenges of our time can be surmounted by prayer that is why we are calling on all women to join in the all important session that will change the fortunes of our country.

“As Christian women we can, through prayer, negotiate a better pathway for our nation and it comes to stay, halting every anxiety,” she said.

Iseoma-Okorafor urged women to get involved in governance especially at the grassroots to ensure effective communication for nation building.

“As  women, our roles are to nurture and mould characters of the next generation of great leaders.

“This is no ordinary feat as women play variety of roles in everyone’s life in various forms by being involved in various relationship as daughter, sister, wife and mother, those positions should be tailored toward positively influencing the world around us,” she said.

NAN reports that WOWICAN, founded 1994, has facilitated youth, children, women empowerment projects and gospel outreaches (NAN)
