Job creation: Obaseki launches Edo Jobs Internship, Apprenticeship Skills Scheme

GOV. Godwin Obaseki of Edo on Friday launched the Edo Jobs Internship and Apprenticeship Skills Scheme to give youths more opportunities for work and job experience.

Obaseki launched the scheme during the 2018 Youth Summit in Benin, as part of activities to celebrate his administration’s two years in office.

He said that, with the support of the Federal Government, the scheme had identified projects in different areas such as construction, technology and agriculture which would be of immense benefits to Edo youths.

“Where we send you for training as you get trained, you will earn a stipend, and at the end of the training, we will place you on a specifically identified jobs.

“Edo youths are inspirational because of their dreams to dominate their environment.

“Our role as a government is to help you achieve these dreams,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor also provided N100 million grants for innovative youths under the Edo Startup Fund Initiative to fund their businesses in 2019.

Obaseki pledged to support innovative youths who distinguished themselves through Edo Startup Fund Initiative.

He recently gave N500,000 and N300,000 to graduates with registered business names under the programme.

The governor said that his promise of creating 200,000 jobs was becoming a reality, noting that 77, 200 jobs had been created in collaboration with Federal Government agencies.

He gave the assurance that more jobs would be available from the Benin Industrial Park, noting that licence to generate electricity for the park had been granted.

The state Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Cooperation and Employment, Mr Emmanuel Ushoh, said the Obaseki administration had made much progress in creating jobs for the youth in the past two years.
