Niger ministry trains staff on capacity building

THE Niger State Ministry of Lands and Housing said it has trained its senior management cadre on capacity building for effective service delivery to the public.

Alhaji Isah Kanko, the commissioner of the ministry said in Minna on Tuesday that the training would make the staff to put in their optimal performance in dealing with the public.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training was tagged: “Impactful Leadership and Teamwork.’’

The training was organised by the Regional Centre for Expertise (RCE) in Minna.

Kanko explained that the training would improve the capacity of staff of the ministry in addressing the challenges in their various tasks to meet the expectations of government and the public.

“This training will help change the attitude and sight of the staff of our ministry and achieve our mandate which is land management and revenue generation.

“This training will bring about attitudinal change of our staff and positive change of mind for them to think of new ways to improve the ministry,’’ he said.

The commissioner advised the participants to take advantage of the training to update their knowledge on modern techniques of land administration.

In his remarks, Alhaji Sule Yabagi, Niger Head of Service, advised the participants to learn techniques that would develop their capacities and bring about positive change.

Yabagi, who was represented by Alhaji Abubakar Salisu, Permanent Secretary, Human Resource in the Head of Service Office, urged participants to desist from allowing their personal interest interfere with their performance.

Also, Dr Francis Gana, guest speaker and member, Board of Research, RCE, who delivered a paper on “Effectiveness of Civil Servant as a leader,’’ outlined that the civil service was characterised by permanency, neutrality and impartiality.

He explained that to attain success in land administration, staff of the ministry must engage in critical thinking, prepare for meaningful change that would improve the ministry’s revenue generation.

Gana advised them to always ensure punctuality at work which he said would increase their credibility and enhance productivity and integrity.

“As a civil servant, you are not allowed to disclose information without authourisation, rather you are expected to strive towards updating your knowledge and making meaningful contributions,’’ he said.

Similarly, Dr Abdul Hussein, Coordinator, RCE Minna, said that the training would make participants more effective in service delivery as land officers within the ministry.

Hussein advised participants to embrace teamwork and extend what they have learnt on leadership to their subordinate so as to improve the ministry profile. (NAN)
