SOME governorship candidates in just concluded election in Edo say they will continue to deepen democracy in the state including resorting to suit on the election in spite of its near perfection.
The candidates disclosed this on Tuesday in Benin while appreciating the role of newsmen before, during and after the election.
Their spokesman, Mr Bishop Akalamhe, candidate of Zenith Labour Party, under the aegis of Edo 2020 Governorship Candidates Forum, said they were at the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ (NUJ’s) secretariat for “Thank you visit”.
According to Akalamhe, “the forum may decide to go to tribunal or support anyone who files a suit on the just concluded Edo Governorship election to deepen democracy.”
He commended the media for playing a crucial role before, during and after the election which led to peaceful and transparent conduct of the election in spite of the tension during the build-up to the election.
The forum also commended the roles played by the peace committee led by former head of state, Gen. Abdulsalmi Abubakar (Rtd), the Inspector-General of Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The forum, however, promised to contribute its quota in building the state in the interest of the people.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that out of the 14 contestants in the election seven of them were present and without the All Progressives Congress (APC).
