THE Edo State government says it has commenced the training of 1,446 more teachers, head teachers and principals to bridge the teaching gap by not less than 95 per cent.

This is even as it said 306 state-owned junior secondary schools (JSS) in the state have been incorporated into the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) programme as part of efforts to improve the standard of education in the state.

The Executive Chairman, Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs Ozavize Salami, who disclosed these to journalists over the weekend, said the 10-day intensive training programme was to equip teachers with new teaching methods.

“With the inclusion of 306 junior secondary schools, over 32,000 additional Edo children are now covered under the state’s structured learning methodology through its EdoBEST programme,” she said.

She added that Governor Godwin Obaseki, through EdoBEST, has since 2018 consistently prioritised teachers’ professional development as a vehicle for accelerating learning.
