The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has said the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UMTE, will be made available to candidates of other countries in West Africa to gain admission to Nigerian universities.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, stated this at the 6th Annual Conference of West Africa Universities in Dakar, Senegal, according to a statement on Sunday.

He said the examination body would give scholarships to foreign nationals who perform exceptionally in the 2019 UTME.

The registrar, who delivered a paper titled, “Trans-Border Education and Research: Quality Assurance Implications for African Universities”, said  UTME forms would be available at the Nigerian missions in  West African countries in December.

Oloyede in the statement by JAMB’s Head of Information, Fabian Benjamin,  said  West African universities must not limit their visions to producing graduates for their countries.

He said, “Universities in West Africa must ensure that a certain quota is set aside for international students. This is the way universities in the sub-region can compete with their others. To find solutions to the challenges in West Africa, the universities must live up to their responsibilities. The imperatives are to develop appropriate policies, mechanisms and structures that will strengthen current efforts to ensure relevance and excellence.

“Scholarships will also be available to some foreign nationals who perform exceptionally in the examination.” – Punch
