Omenugha said the workshop would help the teachers to assess the personal improvement of their students.

She said Anambra as a pacesetter in the education management, students should be able to read effectively and do a self-assessment for improved performances.

Omenugha said portfolio assessment would help teachers to assess the children, in turn assess themselves for enhanced development in all fields of human endeavour.

She said teachers should play a vital role in making reading interesting to children and enable them pick up interest in academic activities.

She urged the teachers not to talk down on the children when they failed to get their academic reading right but should correct them love.

The commissioner commended the National President of the RAN, Mrs Irene Mbanefo and her team for the good work it was doing to bring back the reading culture among Nigerian students and pupils.

She said the workshop had a target of imbibing the right skills of reading in the teachers who in turn would pass the standard reading culture to pupils and students.

NAN reports that RAN since Feb. 16, had been holding workshop with teachers of primary and post primary schools on reading skills enhancement. (NAN)
