BASUBEB gets 42 school gardens to promote agriculture

THE Bauchi State universal basic education board (BASUBEB)  said it had spent N39million in establishing 42 school gardens across some junior secondary and primary schools.

Mallam Muhammad Abdullahi, the spokesman of the board made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Monday.

He said the initiative was aimed at beautifying the school’s environment as well as encourage the students and pupils to imbibe agriculture through practical experiences.

Abdullahi added that the programme was a continuous process as it was expected to cover all existing schools, saying ‘we will intensify efforts on the green wall revolution in our schools’.

“Those gardens are to be maintained by the school authorities,”  he said.

In a related development, Abdullahi noted that the board had also spent N19million to promote sports development in schools, adding “we procured recreationally and other sporting facilities for the schools”.

NAN reports that the Bauchi Universal Basic Education Board has in the last one year, spent billions of naira on the construction of schools, renovation, and provision of furniture. (NAN)
