SPEAKER, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has advocated for collaborative efforts to end the number of out-of-school children in the country.

Abdullahi made the call in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr Jibrin Gwamna, a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Keffi.

According to him, the collaborative effort is for the interest of societal development and more rewarding generation.

He described children as special gift from God, hence the need for parents, stakeholders and the authorities to ensure that the Nigerian child was given necessary support through love, education and moral training.

The speaker, who identified with children on their Day, which was being celebrated in low key due to COVID-19 pandemic, decried the growing rate of out-of-school syndrome.

“Child labour, street hawking, begging and violence against children are reasons why there is need for collective responsibilities to tackle the menace in the country,” he said.

Abdullahi condemned violence against children and called for all hands to be on deck to address the problem.

“If parents and stakeholders join hands with government in tackling child abuse, child labour and violence against children, it will go a long way in promoting peace and societal development,” he said.

The speaker therefore urged parents to see education as lasting legacy they could bequeath to their children and give it optimal priority.

He described education as the best instrument to fight poverty and other societal vices, hence the need for parents to give topmost priority to their children’s education

“Education is the leeway to success in life; a route to escape poverty and the bedrock of every society.

”Knowledge is power and we must do everything humanly possible to ensure that children get the best education,’’ the speaker said.

Abdullahi felicitated with the children on their special day and prayed to God to continue to protect them with sound health and brighter future for a more rewarding generation.

He reiterated the state assembly’s commitment to continue to support government policies and programmes as well as laws that would protect the right of children and better their lots in society. (NAN)
