Ango Landan, Provost, Federal College of Education (FCE), Zaria, said on Tuesday that the college had introduced Computer-Based-Test (CBT) to reduce the burden of marking examination scripts by lecturers.

Ladan disclosed this at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected executives of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Federal College of Education, Zaria.

He said the new initiative had already commenced in the college with courses that have a large number of students, adding that other courses would be incorporated soon..

According to him, once a student writes his examination, he can log on to the system to see his results immediately.

Ladan explained that with the new syste, it was impossible to accuse a lecturer of cheating a student.

He also that assured that the management of the institution was ready to work with the new executives but charged the entire FCE community to be disciplined and develop a positive attitude to work.

“I want to assure you that the present management is out to work together with you; you can see the changes we are are bringing into the college; all these are not by accident but by plan.

“I started the CBT examination centre in this college and God willing, very soon, the cumbersome way of marking examination will be no more.

“That is if only you cooperate; because a lot of us are afraid of the computer; if you turn-on the computer for them, they become afraid, why?

“Why should you not conquer the computer when you have your handsets with you, the handset is a mini computer; we want to ease your work, if we want you to give us result today, we want it today,” he noted.

Administering the oath of office, the COEASU National Vice Chairman, Malam Ma’awiyya Haruna-Usman, attributed the success of the outgoing executives to the support of the congress.

Haruna-Usman said the college remained a training and testing ground as far as COEASU was concerned. He said that the union would promote a cordial working relationship with the incoming executives.

He urged the management to consider the new executives as representatives of the entire academic staff of the college and warned against any form of negotiation with non-executive members.

The new chairman, Malam Halliru Musa, expressed appreciation to the union members for electing them into office and promised to deliver on their electoral manifestoes.

He appealed to all who contested for offices to join him in moving the union forward.

“Now, I see all of us that canvassed for support into various offices as committed comrades and unionists who are ready to offer good and selfless service for the promotion of this great union.

“Now that election is over, let us unite and join hands together for the struggle ahead, because there is no winner no vanquish. Together, we shall do it, as we all know that unity and job satisfaction is the motto of our great union.”

He thanked the COEASU Electoral Committee for conducting free and fair elections and lauded the outgoing executives piloting the affairs of the union for four years.

He promised to improve on the record of his predecessors and appealed to his executive members to shun personal interest and work for the overall well-being of members.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the newly sworn-in officials were Dr Musa Aliyu Hamza (Secretary), Malam Mansur Hashim (Assistant Secretary) and Malam Ubale Isma’il Alahaji (Financial Secretary).

Others are Malam Hayatuddeen Macchido Muhammed (Auditor) and Malam Hussaini Ibrahim Kwalli (Director of Sports), among others. (NAN)
