THE FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello has urged Heads of various Agencies and Departments of the FCT Education Secretariat to revive public education back to its glorious days.

Bello made the call when he received briefings from the various Secretariats, Departments and Agencies (SDAs) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Wednesday in Abuja.

The briefing had in attendance the Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, the FCT Permanent Secretary Mr Chinyeaka Ohaa and all the Heads of Boards, Departments and Agencies in the territory.

The minister also urged teachers and school administrators to be more committed to their duties, saying, “we owe it to God and humanity to change the system.”

He said that the consequences of internal bickering and in-fighting could be very dire in the long run.

Bello said that education was the vehicle that would drive the agenda of change in the FCT, adding that teachers should develop passion for the profession, which he described as noble.

“As a product of public education at institutions from primary to tertiary level, I am very appreciative of the education l received from my teachers and lecturers.

“What is currently lacking in the public-school system today is commitment to duty,” he said.

He challenged the heads of boards and departments of education to show more commitment to duty, to enhance quality of education in FCT in over the next two years.

He assured that his administration would give more time and resources to education, as he intends to complete all ongoing projects in the sector in the next 18 months.

Bello said that administrators, heads of departments and agencies must put in extra work, saying “as line managers, heads of agencies must go the extra mile and put extra efforts.”

He also said that all the boards, agencies and departments of the secretariat must work according to their established mandates and deliver on those mandates.

According to him, the FCT administration will place a lot of emphasis on quality in terms of services delivered and not necessarily on quantity.

The Minister of State, Aliyu called for synergy and communication among the various boards and Departments of the Secretariat, emphasising that it was the panacea for meeting the yearnings of the people. (NAN)
