THE Industrial Training Fund, ITF, and the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association, NECA, have donated welding and fabrication equipment to the Federal Science and Technical College, Doma in Nasarawa State.
Presenting the equipment on Wednesday in Doma, Joseph Ari, Director-General of ITF, who spoke for the two organisations, said the gesture was aimed at improving human capital both in public and private sectors.
The Director-General, represented by Mr. Zakaria Piwuna, said that the ITF identified areas of needs of youths in school and outside the school with a view to empowering them to be self-reliant.
“We identify four technical colleges in the country every year for intervention based on their needs,’’ he said.
Ari appealed to state governments to partner the organisaions to engage the youth, as part of tackling restiveness in the country.
Dr Emmanuel Akabe, the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, represented by Fati Sabo, the state Commissioner of Education, Science, and Technology, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the establishment of the technical college in the state.
Akabe said that the state government was determined to support the college to achieve its mandate of providing technical education to the youth.
The items donated include rivet and riveting tools, bench vice metal, cramp folding machine, pillar drilling machine, and ARC welding machine.
The others are workbench, oxygen cylinders, rolling machines, toolboxes, and power generators.
Mrs. Elizabeth Adedigba, Director of Science and Technology, Federal Ministry of Education, who represented the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, said the ministry was delighted at the support by the ITF.
Adedigba said that the Federal Government had approved the establishment of 16 new technical colleges in the country, especially in states where there was none.
Mr Emmanuel Haruna, Principal of the college, who received the equipment, expressed gratitude to ITF and NECA for the donation.
Haruna said that the donation would go a long way to boost the performance of the students of the college.
He appealed to public-spirited individuals and the state government to construct roads leading to the college and provide equipment to make the school realise its objective.
Haruna thanked the federal and state governments as well as traditional rulers in the area for their support to the school.
He appealed to other organisations to emulate ITF and NECA in ensuring that students would acquire skills for self-reliance. (NAN)
