The Chairman, Concerned Civil Servants in Katsina State, Alhaji Kabir Safana, says the state government has sponsored 148,106 students to study in Nigeria and abroad in the last three years.

Safana disclosed this on Wednesday during a visit to Sabuwa Local Government Area to solicit workers’ support for the State Governor, Aminu Masari and President Muhammad Buhari’s re-election bid.

According to him: “In the last three years, the state government has spent over one billion naira to settle students’ school fees and other needs related to their studies’’.

He said that the government’s objective in sponsoring the students was to make sure that the country’s future leaders are given quality education which was part of its campaign promises.

Safana said that 90 per cent of the governor’s campaign promises to the civil servants had been fulfilled in spite of the country’s economic challenges.

He said that: “despite the recent economic recession, the state government was able to settle over N11 billion unpaid pensions and gratuities to retired civil servants inherited from the previous government.

“There was no month that the civil servants were not paid their salary since the present administration took over in 2015 till date.

“I can boldly say that it is only in Katsina that CONHESS salary scheme workers are paid constantly without delay or missing a single month.

“Masari has re-engaged the civil servants that were sacked without following due process during the last administration after thorough investigation, and also settled their three-months salary arrears,’’ the chairman said.

He commended the governor for commencing the promotion of primary school teachers after many years without promotion, which he described as a great achievement.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Caretaker committee chairman, Sabuwa Local Government Area, Alhaji Faruq Hayatu, called on the state government to look into the possibilities of increasing staff for the council.

He said the call necessary to boost the working capacity of the council, pledging to continue to work with all the staff towards supporting the present administration at the Federal and state governments levels.

Hayatu called on workers to be united and to work with one another for the development of the state and the country in general.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Concerned Civil Servants for Change have so far visited seven out of the 11 local governments in Funtua Senatorial Zone of the state. (NAN)
