Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has said that his administration is determined to improve the State’s educational system in order to meet the challenges of basic and quality education.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Union Bank Education Fair tagged “Edu 360” at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Ambode gave an insight into entrepreneurial training provided by the State through the ‘Ready.Set.Work’ project and ‘CodeLagos’ initiatives.

The governor, represented by Obafela Bank-Olemoh, the special adviser on Education, at the event, stated that the initiatives were embarked upon to deliberately place Lagos State at a vantage position by meaningfully engaging the youths and developing graduates into business creators through the teaching of entrepreneurial skills.

According to him, “The State government started with an employability and entrepreneurship programme, Ready.Set.Work which prepares final year students for the world of work to become employees and employers of labour in which over 5,000 final year students were taken through a 13-week programme with 2,000 of them placed on internship.”

“The State government is working towards teaching one million Lagosians to code by 2020 with the in and out of school classes across  634 centres in the State, in view of the fact that technology is an important aspect of everyday living,” he added.

Ambode, therefore, applauded the organisers of the Education Fair for their commitment over the years to improving the sector in particular and society at large.
