The training took place at the council headquarters, Ojoto. It was spearheaded by Kingsley Ozodi, the department’s head and Victor Etim, a National Youth Service Corps, NYSC,  member.

Speaking to newsmen, Ozodi said that the department was into a productivity plan that entailed making every staff in the department   productive.

“With the turn of events in the country economy wise, we decided to embark on skills acquisition.

“We have learnt paint productions, white and coloured emulsion paints, productions of air freshener and liquid soup,’’ Ozodi said.

He stressed that they would continue to learn other skills to ensure that those who acquire them would use the proceeds to help their families, saying that it would augment the salary they receive from government.

“We intend to equip people so that they can be self sustaining, not always going for loans before the end of the month,’’ said Ozodi.

“More so it is to keep the staff busy in their various offices because an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.’’

However, Don Unachukwu, the LGA boss, who came to inspect the workshop commended the department for their ingenuity, urging the staff to imbibe the knowledge and skills that would make them more productive.

Unachukwu obliged the request to show the department the building they would point to display their handwork and products.

Etim said that although it cost him much to acquire all those skills which he was teaching but was giving out the knowledge for free as one of his secondary community development projects in Anambra.

Etim, who said the training would continue next week in the council headquarters, however, pleaded with Governor Willie Obiano to consider him for state and national awards. He also pleaded to be retained as employee of the state after his national service.
