The Nasarawa State Government has concluded plans to disburse N194 million as scholarship to indigent students studying in tertiary institutions in the country.

Danlami Ikpobose, the newly appointed Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lafia.

According to the executive secretary, 19,000 students studying in various tertiary institutions were screened and only 5, 305 were paid before his appointment.

“My predecessor needed N294 million to pay all the students, but government released only N100 million, remaining a balance of N194 million.

“The remaining students will soon receive their payments and the screening for another set of beneficiaries will commence soon.

” The memo is already before his Excellency, Gov. Umaru Al-Makura;  so we are just waiting for approval and release of funds to enable us to commence payment,” Ikpobose added.

He appealed to the governor to increase the monthly overhead of the board from N100,000 to at least N500,000 to enable it to meet its numerous demands.

Ikpobose called on the students to be patient as the board was making serious efforts to improve their welfare. (NAN)
