–

THE Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, has expressed confidence that Ishaq Oloyede, registrar and chief executive officer of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, would repeat the feats he performed during his tenure as vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN.

The NASU, an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, commended the federal government on the appointment of the former VC by expressing confidence that Oloyede would reposition the JAMB and place it in the global map of examination agencies.

A statement by Fabian Benjamin, spokesperson of the JAMB, quoted Peter Adeyemi, general secretary of the NASU, as making those remarks in his congratulatory letter to Oloyede, obtained by journalists on Thursday, September 1, in Abuja.

Although Oloyede has long started work with laudable steps aimed at repositioning the agency, he had maintained that congratulatory messages were better deferred till his assignment as the registrar of the JAMB comes to a successful end.

Nevertheless, he has promised to build on what his predecessors had done to make the JAMB a better agency than he met it.

The NASU described him as “a visionary, honest, transparent, purposeful and accountable administrator and academics whose track records speaks volume.”

While recalling some of feats performed by Oloyede when he was vice chancellors at the UNILORIN, the labour group said the new JAMB boss would bring his wealth of experience to bear on the new responsibility given to him.

While expressing confidence in his ability to sanitise the conduct of matriculation examinations in the nation’s tertiary institutions, the labour union challenged Oloyede, as he has always done, to improve the welfare and working condition of the JAMB staff.

The congratulatory letter reads: “On behalf of the members of NASU, I congratulate you on your appointment as the Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB. We regard you as one of us, having followed your track records as a lecturer at the University of Ilorin and later as the institution’s Vice Chancellor.

“We remember your tenure as Vice Chancellor with nostalgia, a period when you changed the face of the institution. You brought on board visionary and purposeful leadership, honesty, transparency, accountability and good governance.

“You carried the institution’s stakeholders along through consultations with workers and students, which in turn brought about wide acceptance of your programmes, thereby engendering peace in the University. You left your footprints as a colossus in the history of the administration of the University.”

The union also described Oloyede as a man of peace and promoter of peaceful co-existence as secretary-general, Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs who has always being at the forefront of ensuring peaceful coexistence.

“You stand out as a promoter of religious tolerance, something that is fast eluding the country today,” NASU said.
