DAVID Markson, Gombe State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has called on Corps members deployed to the state to take with utmost seriousness, the Skills  Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development  (SAED) Programme of the scheme.

Markson made the call on Monday in Amada town of Akko Local Government Arra of Gombe at the opening ceremony of  a skills acquisition training as part of the orientation Programme of the NYSC.

He said the programme was introduced into orientation course contents in 2012 to enable Corps member become self-reliant upon completion of their  service year.

“The reality of the Nigerian labour market is that there is dearth of wage employment opportunities for our young graduates.

“ The introduction of this beautiful Programme into the NYSC is to sensitize Corps members to the realities of the Nigerian job market.

“This will also introduce them to the twelve skills set and sub-sets and equip them to start up their own business in order to augment their meagre allowances.

“It is no longer news that white collar jobs are scarce and only for the lucky few; you  must therefore take this SAED Programme with all seriousness, ” he advised.

In his remarks, the Assistant Director, Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, NYSC Gombe, Mr Ukwenya Owoicho, encouraged Corps members to take their time to go through their SAED work book and ask questions where they did not understand.

He educated the corps members on the 12 skill sets, namely  ;agro-allied, food processing and preservation, culture and tourism, cosmetology, ICT, construction, environment, beautification, power and energy, education, film and photography, as well as automobile.

“We shall be having sensitisation on entrepreneurship development and motivation from ex Corps members that are now entrepreneurs and employers of labour here in the State,” he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a total of 1,619 Batch ‘A’Corps members deployed to the state are attending the training as part of activities for their orientation Programme. (NAN)
