AHEAD of May 29 first year anniversary of Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) said the governor revived the collapsed education sector in the state.

Mr Azeez Adeyemi, the National Public Relations Officer of the Association, gave the commendation in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

Adeyemi said Abiodun revived the collapsed education sector in the state within the shortest period of time.

“The governor reconstituted the Board of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Abeokuta and set up a committee to look into the issues surrounding the establishment of the Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH).

“He also ordered the immediate payment of outstanding salaries and allowances of the staff of the institution and ensured the reopening of the polytechnic after eight months of academic paralysis.

“Abiodun’s administration also resolved the crisis that bedevilled the Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), ensuring that the institution came back to life after the school was shut down for almost two years,” he said in a statement.

As part of efforts to revitalise the education sector in the state, Adeyemi said the administration of Abiodun began the renovation of dilapidated primary schools in each of the 236 wards of the state.

“We applaud his dexterity and quality leadership skills since assumption of office,” he said.

Adeyemi described the governor as a visionary leader who was determined to take the state to enviable heights in spite of criticisms from some quarters.

The NANS spokesman noted that within the period of one year, the people of the state were already reaping the benefits of the good decisions by Abiodun’s administration.

“No doubt, the governor’s impressive start has placed Ogun amongst the most economically viable states in Nigeria.

“The governor, no doubt has continued to prove critics wrong as he steadily continues on the path of taking the state to the promised heights,” Adeyemi said.

He equally appreciated the achievement of the government in the management and the fight against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the state.

The NANS spokesman, however, wished the governor the best in the remaining period of his tenure and also congratulated him on his upcoming 60th birthday which incidentally comes up on May 29. (NAN)
