The National Association of Mass Communication Students, NAMCOS, Tansian University, Anambra State chapter has rewarded Nze U Nze, one of their lecturers, for outstanding performance. Nze was awarded the ‘Best lecturer’ in the department with about N100, 000.

The award ceremony took place at Tansian University Auditorium, Oba campus, Idemili South, Local Government Area, Anambra State.

Christabella Umeh, the NAMCOS chapter president described Nze as a distinguished lecturer, who is ever willing to impart knowledge into students with his vast knowledge and experience.

Umeh said that the students resolved to reward the lecturer with something tangible this year, having won the award for three consecutive academic sessions with overwhelming margins.

“One good turn deserves another. Mr Nze is like biological father to us.

“He awards prizes to best students in his courses every semester, and assists students who have problems, even those with financial challenges.

“Mr Nze won the award with 126 votes out of 183 votes cast by students of mass communication department.’’

He had won the prize in 2015/2016, 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic sessions.

“In previous academic sessions, the association did not give him any tangible gift and so, we decided this year to reward him substantially as a token of our appreciation,” Umeh remarked.

She noted that the outcome of the poll was not a surprise, saying that Mr Nze was a charismatic teacher, who was always punctual to lectures.

Earlier, Victory Thomas, the Public Relations Officer, NAMCOS clarified that the N100, 000 was not a specific amount reserved for the ‘Best lecture award’.

He noted that the association decided to go an extra mile to appreciate the recipient.

“We don’t have a particular amount for ‘Best lecturers’ but in the case of Nze, who has won it thrice, we contacted our parents and guardians who were willing to support the initiative,” Thomas said.

Nze, thanked the students for their kind gesture, stressing that he was not expecting any financial reward from them to discharge his duties.

He said that students look up to their teachers as parents outside their homes, saying that teachers were not only required to influence students academically but morally and otherwise.

“As a teacher, you have to act as a parent, whether at primary, secondary or tertiary levels. You are the parent they look up to in school.

“If you deny them counsel on non-academic issues they want to share with you, it will definitely affect their academic performance directly or indirectly,” Nze said.

He thanked the students for the award and commended his colleagues and management of Tansian University, for giving him the opportunity to affect the younger generation as leaders of tomorrow.
