Ejigbo LCDA boss distributes food items to residents

Mosurudeen Bello, the Chairman of Ejigbo Local Government Council Area (LCDA), has begun the distribution of food items to residents to cushion the effect of the stay-at-home order to contain the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.

According to a statement by the media officer of the council, Kunle Oladele, the Chairman emphasised that the masses are the expected beneficiaries.

Speaking during the distribution at the Council Secretariat, Ejigbo, Lagos State, Bello disclosed that Ejigbo has one hundred and ten Community Development Associations (CDAs).

Vulnerable residents of each CDA which of cause includes the aged, the physically challenged and the unemployed will benefit from this first phase, which was provided by the Local Council in partnership with Ejigbo Community Development Committee (CDC).

He explained further that the exercise has no political colouration as the distribution was being handled by the Community/Religious leaders with the support of the CDC and CDAs.

Bello further said, “we are doing everything possible to make sure that the stimulus gets to those who genuinely deserve it.

“It is globally accepted that the best approach so far to stop Covid-19 is by curtailing its spread.

“It was on this premise that a lockdown was declared for 14 days in the first instance with the aim of protecting ourselves.

“As a responsible Government, we deemed it necessary to reach out to the vulnerable ones in our society, despite the financial situation of the Local Council, which is a direct reflection of the current global recession.

“We are able to provide stimulus packages, which include – four thousand tubbers of yams, one thousand create of eggs, bread, beans, Garri, Indomie and one hundred bags of rice, ” he said

The Chairman explained that the relief packages was not meant for all but only the low income earners of the population as a gesture to make life easier for them. (NAN)
