Emir tasks committee for effective campaign against COVID-19

The Emir of Dukku in Gombe State, Alhaji Haruna Rasheed II, has urged the Task Force Committee on Coronavirus, to double effort for effective campaign to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

Rasheed made the call during an advocacy visit by the committee to his palace, on Monday in Dukku.

“You should come out clearly and tell the truth about the dangers and precautionary measures against the virus for people to understand it.

“And even if it entails shutting down every other activities, you should do so, but let the public know that it is for us to continue to sensitise our people,” he said.

According to him, people are apprehensive about shutdowns but it is the only solution with no other options.

He added that following their meeting with the state governor, he sermon district heads and religious leaders on the matter and the need to educate their subjects on dangers and precautionary measures against the pandemic.

“The visit of the committee will also help them to hear directly from the experts,” he said.

He assured the committee that he would continue the sensitisation and prayers against the spread of the virus.

Also speaking, Prof. Idris Mohammed, the Chairman of the committee said the virus has no cure, hence, the need for people to cooperate and completely adhered to preventive measures.

Mohammed said the aim of the advocacy was to solicit the support of traditional rulers across the state for effective sensitisation of people at the grassroots.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee presented posters and flayers on prevention and symptoms of the virus to the Emir, to enhance sensitisation activities in the area. (NAN)
