CHIMAMANDA Ngozi Adichie, Nigerian author’s new book, Americanah has won the United States National Critics Book Prize. The book was also selected as one of The New York Times’ 10 best books of 2013.

The National Critics Book Prize was first awarded in 1974 and is open to writers of all nationalities whose work has been published in the US. Americanah was published in May 2013 by Alfred A. Knopf. It’s a fictional novel that unravels the story of a young Nigerian woman who emigrates to the US for a university education.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, born September 15, 1977, has been called “the most prominent of a procession of critically acclaimed young Anglophone authors [that] is succeeding in attracting a new generation of readers to African literature”, and her string of awards keep substantiating the claim.

MERCY Johnson, Nollywood actress, can now freely return to work on movie sets as the ban which was placed on her a few months ago has now been lifted.

In a press release signed by Norbert Ajaegbu, spokesman for Film, Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria, FVPMAN, the group said the ban placed on Johnson had been lifted. “Having diligently concluded all the jobs in dispute, she leaves us with no choice than to accept her apology” the statement said, adding: “She is one wonderful personality we would not want to join issues with. She knows when to say sorry. She has concluded all that we asked her to do. We have directed our members to resume all the previous existing relationship with her.”

Johnson was banned a few months ago from acting for allegedly being “too expensive.”

CONTRARY to the news making the rounds that Lewis Hamilton, a Formula One racing champion, was engaged to Nicole Scherzinger, American singer and long-time girlfriend. “Hey all, need to talk about these rumours. I thought I should let you guys know that I haven’t proposed to Nicole,” Hamilton said.

News had filtered in that Hamilton had finally engaged Scherzinger and that the couple planned to move to Switzerland where they would live and only travel together whenever Lewis was racing.

It is no news that both have been on and off after first meeting five years ago. In July 2014 they broke up right before the first live auditions for “The X Factor: UK.” However, a month later they were back together again. Hamilton, 29, was spotted in the garage of a hotel where Scherzinger, 35, was staying.

Last year, they rekindled their romance, again on a romantic trip to Rome after suffering another break-up earlier that same year.

IN what is becoming a norm for Nigerian celebrities, Tiwa Savage, singer, and Tee Billz, fiancé and producer, are to wed in Dubai on April 26. The wedding which initially had been fixed for February in the Maldives Island, had to be rescheduled for what the couple called personal issues.

Just like singer Tuface Idibia when he took his wedding to the Far East and the impending double weddings of the P-Square brothers in Dubai. However, many are wondering why Nigerian stars are taking their weddings to another country and expect their fans in the country to buy their albums and generally patronise them.
