IT WAS a year of creativity, mourning and celebration in the Nigerian entertainment industry. In 2013, some artistes who did not make much impact in the industry in 2012, made waves with their songs. Songs like, Eminado by Tiwa Savage, Pull Over by Kcee, Personally by P Square, Limpopo by Kcee, Skelewu by Davido, Run Mad by Terry G, Stupid Luv by Olamide, Gobe by Davido all made waves across the country.

It was a jubilant year for Tuface Idibia, Nigeria’s ace singer, who surprised his fans all over the world in March, when he tied the nuptial knot with Annie Macauley, a Nollywood actress in far away Dubai. The later is the mother of one of his five children from different women. In November, Peter Okoye of P Square, married his long-time girlfriend and baby mama, Lola Omotayo. Also Tiwa Savage and Tunji Balogun popularly known as Tee Billz tied the nuptial knots in November. Similarly, Dr. Sid of Mavin Records engaged Simi Osomo, his long time lover in August and their marriage introduction was held recently in December.

The industry also witnessed outstanding performances that led to different awards both locally and internationally. Wizkid, was awarded the African Artiste of the year at the Ghana Music Awards and was also one of the artistes that got an award for the .African Music Video Awards in December.

Uche Jumbo, an actress won the best actress of the year alongside Desmond Elliot who won the best actor at the African Film International Festival, AFRIFF. The disagreement between Don Jazzy of Mavin Records and Wande Coal, his counterpart, blew open in November as a result of some irreconcilable differences. The two artistes broke up after working together for many years.

It was not all smiling for the industry in the year. Funke Akindele, a popular Yoruba actress, parted ways with Almaroof Oloyede, his husband because of some irreconcilable differences while Chika Ike’s marriage was dissolved legally after many years of separation with her husband. Death knocked on the door of the industry in 2013. On February 19, the industry lost Justus Esiri, a veteran actor who died at the age of 70. In November also, Olufemi Mayomi, a musician popularly known as Father U-Turn died at the age of 36 in a Lagos state hospital after a brief illness.
