JEFFREY Akoh, sound engineering graduate of the School of Audio Engineering Institute, Cape Town, South Africa, on Sunday, September 27, emerged winner of the eighth edition of the MTN Project Fame West Africa. The 18-year-old singer who started music at a tender age has thus, joined the league of past winners such as Iyanya, iMike, Ayoola, Chidinma, Monica, Olawale and Geoffrey as he beat five other contestants to emerge the winner after eight weeks at the academy.

Jeff, as he is fondly called, walked away with a grand prize of N5 million, a brand new SUV and a recording deal worth millions of Naira, while Pearl Olanma Awa-Agwu, first runner-up, received a car and N3 million. Anderson Emmanuel Amos, who finished as second runner-up, won a car and N2 million, while Adanoritsewo Tosanwumi as the third runner-up went home with N2 million prize.

Jeff who is the youngest winner in the eight-year history of the competition draws inspiration from Chris Brown, Kim Burrell and Lawrence Flowers. He entered the Project Fame West Africa academy with voting number 11 and gave the competition a good fight through an eight week period that was soaked with tension, fun and pure talent.

On the night he was announced winner of the competition; he had written these words earlier via his Twitter: “Whatever happens this evening, please know that I appreciate everyone out there. Friends, family, and fans who have turned to family. I will sign out now. Hopefully when I come back here, I’ll be reading your congratulatory messages. Am a winner! #mtnprojectfame8.”
