Enugu Sports Club elects new executive

THE Enugu Sports Club on Friday elected Mr Nnanna Atuonwu as its new chairman.

Announcing the result, the Chairman of the electoral committee, Dr Uche Abada, disclosed that Atuonwu Scored 257 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Uche Onoh who polled 209 votes.

Abada added that Comrade Anthony Udeh and Mr Willy Nnamani got five and 47 votes respectively.

Atuonwu, a former Chief of Staff to ex Gov Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, will take over from the outgoing Chairman, Mr John-Henry Nwosu.

The new chairman later appointed some members of the executive to include Mr Ifeanyi Nweke as his Vice Chairman, Dr Ogueji Egbo as the club Secretary and Prof. Cajethan Onyedum as the Membership Secretary.

However, in his acceptance speech, Atuonwu promised to take the club to greater heights by carrying all sections of the club along.

He thanked members of the club for the confidence reposed on him and called on other contestants to join him in the development of the club.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Enugu Sports Club was founded in 1929 to provide sporting and recreational facilities for elites members of the club.

It has 12 sections comprising Golf, swimming, lawn tennis, table tennis, squash, basketball and badminton.

Others are snooker/Billiards section, gym, chess, draught and scrabble sections. (NAN)
