THE Executive Secretary, Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA, Simeon Onyemaechi, says the agency will provide solar-powered lights and ultrasound machines at the Enugwu Ukwu General hospital.

This is to improve the quality of services rendered to the beneficiaries of scheme at the hospital.

“The solar-powered lights being provided will power the hospital in case of a power outage, especially at nights and also provide ultrasound scan machines, which is essential in management of pregnant women.

Onyemaechi, who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, said this at Enugwu Ukwu General Hospital during a meeting with the hospital staff members.

The Head of Administrative Department of the hospital, C. N. Uzoigwe, expressed appreciation as they anticipate a proposed intervention by ASHIA.

“Patients keep coming every day but we have to refer them to other hospitals since we can’t help it; we are pleading with ASHIA to help to equip our hospital with scanning machines,’’ he said.

The Matron-In-Charge of Infant Welfare Unit, Loretta Okonkwo, expressed happiness with the government and ASHIA for the good work they were doing.

According to her, I benefited from ASHIA when I took ill last month but examined and treated almost free of charge because I paid only 10 percent of the bill for drugs.

She, however, pleaded with the state government to revisit the new hospital structure still under construction, which had yet to be completed.

Uche Okeke, Medical Doctor at the hospital expressed his delight over the promised equipment.

He requested a call room for doctors which was a challenge, especially for those at night duties who have nowhere to stay.
