Anambra State government said it is determined to attract more ecological funding for control of erosion in the state.

Michael Okonkwo, commissioner for Environment, said this during an interview with newsmen in his office at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.

Okonkwo said that Obiano was still soliciting for more ecological interventions from the Federal Government and other donor-agencies like the World Bank, by ‘sending a Save Our Soul, SOS,’ message on hazards caused by erosion in parts of the state.

The commissioner, who said that intervention work was currently ongoing in four active erosion sites in the state, commended the FG and World Bank for collaborative efforts so far.

“In spite of the achievements of Anambra government in tackling erosion, the state is still listed as the least in land mass in the entire federation because of erosion,” he said.

Okonkwo noted that this was the reason for the governor’s dogged quest for more assistance from donor-agencies and the FG.

While assuring of government’s determination to stop erosion menace in the state, the commissioner stressed that government was determined to sustain practices that would curb erosion.

He cited such practices to include adequate waste management, provision of properly terminated drainages and tree planting.
