ANSG seeks More Ecological Funds to tackle Erosion

IN a bid stem erosion menace in Anambra State, government has solicited for more ecological interventions from the federal government and donor agencies.

Michael Okonkwo, commissioner for environment, made the assertion during an interview with newsmen in his office at Awka.

Okonkwo said that Governor Willie Obiano had resolved to seek more ecological funding by constantly sending out “a save our soul, SOS,’’ to the federal government to address issues of erosion menace.

The commissioner said the intervention work was currently ongoing in four sites in the state.

He commended the state and the federal government in conjunction with the World Bank for collaborative effort to achieve to record improvements.

Okonkwo re-assured of the government’s determination to undergo practices that would curb erosion to include adequate waste management, provision of drainages and planting of trees.

He urged Anambra people to partner with the state government in its efforts at curbing the menace in the state.
