Dean recommends waste recycling plant for Anambra

VALERIE Chinedu Nnodu, dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has called for establishment of recycling plant in Anambra State to ensure proper waste management.
Nnodu, who spoke to the media in Awka on secrets of achieving clean and healthy environment, the don explained that if waste materials were recycled, they could be used as organic manure instead of synthetic manure.
The dean suggested that designated dump sites should have treatment facilities.
He urged the Government to ensure that waste dump sites were provided with daily evacuation of refuse to the final dump sites.
Nnodu commended the Obiano administration for clearing of the drains in Awka which she noted was laudable idea.
“The timing of the de silting project is apt as the drains need to be opened up for free flow of water ahead of torrential, continuous downpour expected in July, August and September due to the climatic change,” Nnodu said.
Meanwhile, Joel Igbokwe, a former Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, described the de silting project as welcome development.
He urged Ndi Anambra to refrain from blocking the drainage channels.
