Director urges FG to establish fire prevention centre in 774 LGAs

ABDULWAHEED Yakub, the Director, Kwara Fire Service on Tuesday appealed to the Federal Government to establish a modern fire prevention centre in each of the 774 Local Government Areas in the country.

Yakub made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in llorin.

The director said that the creation of fire service centres nationwide would help safeguard more lives and property during emergencies in any part of the country.

According to him, several lives and valuables worth billions of naira have been lost to many fire mishaps due to the remoteness of fire service offices in various states of the federation.

He advised the Federal Government to work closely with the state governments and other fire prevention stakeholders to ensure the establishment of the fire prevention centres.

He said that when established, the fire prevention centres should be placed under the direct supervision of the Federal Government for effective service delivery.

Yakub advised Nigerians to imbibe the culture of fire safety to safeguard their lives and properties. (NAN)
